Kingsmead Centre in 2010

We have been looking into what we can do to make your holiday at Kingsmead even more enjoyable. After listening to what you have had to say we have undertaken a massive programme of works. All of these improvement are now complete, except for the new toilet block that has been postponed until the end of this season.

New Stock

We have done a huge amount of bankside work on both lakes to reduce cover for predators and also improving the light into the water. This has already had a great impact on the fishing, but we also want to introduce some new fish to freshen up the lakes and add some younger blood.

  • Valley Lake:
    • 80 Mirror Carp (1 - 3 lb)
    • 100 Bream (each about 1 lb)
  • Woodland Lake
    • 80 F1 Carp (1 - 3 lb)

The fish have now been introduced to the water and are feeding well with the great weather we have been having recently. Below are some pictures from the day they arrived:

Bankside Work

Valley Lake

The south bank of the Valley Lake (beside the stream) has had the beech trees copiced to allow the original beech hedge to restablish. This has opened the bank up massively and removed the problem of overhead branches. We have also improved all of the swims on the south bank:

The north bank has had a large drainage ditch dug behind it to allow the ground to stabilise. This has been working well despite the wettest November I can remember. We have now completed the stabilisation work on the north bank and have some fantastic new swims to try this year, all easily accesible from the stone path along the bank.

Woodland Lake

We have made a massive effort to remove the worst overgrown willow trees from the lake. This has greatly improved the light and also increased the available area to fish in the lake. We have also removed the weed from the lake, and thinned the water lillies.

Access

We have taken the road surface to the lower lake back to stone, put in new drainage, and resurfaced the road. We have created a drop off area beside the Valley Lake, and you can now take your car right to the lake side to unload your tackle. You can then leave the car 30 yards away between the two lakes. So no more slogging back up the hill with tackle!

New Toilet / Shower Block (delayed until 2011 season)

Below is the proposed floorplan for the new shower block to be situated on the lower camping field. We have concentrated on making the design as accessible for everyone as possible with wide doorways and large cubicles. Planning permission has just been granted, but unfortunately due to a recent family bereavement we are postponing the construction on the new toilet block to the end of this season.
